Pawan Kumar Agarwal, IAS of 1985 batch of the West Bengal cadre working as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Ashish Bahuguna, the Chairman of the food regulator FSSAI, was given an additional charge of its CEO, following shifting of Yudhvir Singh Malik to the NITI Aayog on September 23. Malik — an IAS officer of 1983 batch of Haryana, was moved out and shifted as Additional Secretary in Niti Aayog.
Pawan Agarwal, an electric engineer, has worked as Director in the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the Government of India responsible for public policy on IT Education, Institutions of national importance like the IITs, IISc, Bangalore and the IIITs. He has earlier held responsible positions in the Government of West Bengal as Principal Secretary in the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, Collector & District Magistrate and in the Departments of Urban Development and Education.
