Ministry of AYUSH has taken the covers off from the world’s first ‘National Ayurveda Day’, which will now be celebrated every year. “The Government of India has decided to celebrate this auspicious day on ‘Dhanvantri Jyanti’ every year”, said the officials.
The event was headed by Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (Independent charge) and Minister of State for Prime Minister Office Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions. He was accompanied by Shripad Yasso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of AYUSH, Ajit M Sharan, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH and other dignitaries.
The first ‘National Ayurveda Day’ was celebrated with the theme of ‘Prevention and Control of Diabetes through Ayurveda’. This year, AYUSH will be laying heavy emphasis spreading awareness about the disease and how it can be cured with the help of Ayurveda. As per the recent report of World Health Organisation (WHO), India is on the verge of becoming the ‘Diabetic Capital of The World’.
Elaborating further on the subject, Dr. Singh said, “World Ayurveda Day was on the card from a long time and today, we have put the foundation stone. The power Ayurveda has already astounded the western world and now, we have to channelize the synergies of this one of the oldest medical sciences to shape a healthy future of our country. Diabetes has become one of the prominent diseases of this country and it has been noticed that this problem, which was earlier related to old people, is now very common among the young generation. So, we need to join hands with AYUSH in order to bring down the diabetic rate which is climbing at rocket pace currently.”
As a part of the ceremony, the new logo of ‘National Ayurveda Day’ was launched which was followed by a release of a recipe book, containing special recipes for diabetic patients Chief Guest also bestowed the life-time achievement awards (contain a check of Rs five lakh and a trophy) to stalwarts of Ayurveda who has dedicated their entire life in researching, developing and innovating new medicines and treatments to cure various diseases.
