“The department of innovation and technology, Government of Karnataka has supported 21 startups in agritech sector by providing funding maximum upto Rs 50 lakh. Rs three crore has been already provided to as many agritech startups,” said Gaurav Gupta, principal secretary, department of innovation and technology, government of Karnataka. 

 

Speaking at the one day workshop on “Technology in Agriculture” jointly organized by Department of IT, BT and S&T and Department of Agriculture in Bangalore, he said, “Besides funding, the startups cell at the department is supporting the companies in filing both Indian and global patents, marketing and promotional activities. We are working as enablers and catalyst to bridge the gap between the consumers, market and companies.”

 

The workshop was organized under the aegis of “Bengaluru Tech Summit”, with emphasis on how new and emerging technologies like IOT, Drones, Smartphones, GIS etc. are impacting the Agriculture sector.

 

The event saw participation from corporate leaders such as Rallis India, Robert Bosch, Microsoft Research India, IBM, Mahindra Group and Cargill and young startups who shared their experiences, and narratives from International best practices.

 

Start-ups like Fluxgen Engeneering Technologies, Amvicube, BigHaat.com, Farms2Fork (Cultyvate), Green Robot Machinery, Cropin Technologies, NubeSol Technologies, vDrone, Flybird Innovations, CroFarm, Exhabit Systems and Aibono presented their thoughts on how technology is being used in the agriculture sector. 

 

The event also showcased the important role played by the Government and various institutions in driving the change in application of the new technologies to Agriculture.
