Nestlé has announced that it has launched a new children’s nutrition programme, which will aim to reformulate the company’s products in order to make them more nutritious.

The global “Nestlé for Healthier Kids” initiative will also provide nutritional advice to families, and the company says that it aims to help 50 million children worldwide achieve lead healthier lives by 2030.

To achieve this, the company is aiming to reformulate its product line by 2020. Targets include the addition of 750 million portions of vegetables and the addition of at least 300 million portions of fibre, pulses, nuts and seeds to its products, as well as reducing sugar in its products by 5%.

Both food and beverages will be included in the reformulation process, and Nestle says that it will complete the commitment taken in 2014 to reduce saturated fats by 10% in all relevant products that do not meet WHO recommendations.
