In the second major bureaucratic reshuffle of India, amongst many other appointments, FSSAI CEO, Pawan Agarwal was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Pawan Agarwal replaced the then FSSAI CEO, Yudvir Singh Malik as the Chief Executive Officer of FSSAI in December 2015. He was working as the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, during which he had shown immense expertise.
This proved to be a stepping stone movement for FSSAI and the Food Safety Industry as Mr Agarwal led the association to build an ecosystem that guaranteed food Safety for every Indian.
He made developments in every possible sphere of the Food Industry, which included campaigns with practical goals, introducing realistic regulations, programs that gave dynamic results, reached millions of Indians and benefiting consumers & stakeholders equally.
He led FSSAI towards introducing over 1100 amendments and regulations, impacted Millions of Individuals through campaigns and initiatives (like SnF, Eat Right, etc.), developed and streamlined stakeholders, swept FSSAI towards digitization, increased public awareness unlike ever before, generated employment for thousands of young Indians and also took FSSAI to the international markets.
Ashwin Bhadri, CEO of Equinox Labs, an FSSAI partnered testing & auditing lab, appreciated Mr. Pawan Agarwal’s leadership qualities, saying, “Under his transparent & democratic leadership, FSSAI and the Food Safety Industry have flourished like never before.” The initiatives introduced during his 4-year term as the FSSAI chief have impacted almost all of the country. Mr. Bhadri further added, “I have personally witnessed him take an active part in every operational process, from conceptualization to implementation and analysis, of the FSSAI’s various functions.”
He also said,” Mr. Pawan Agarwal is not just a great leader but also an exceptional human being, for every time we have interacted, he has been nothing but friendly and enlightening. I hope he achieves great things as the Secretary of the Consumer Affairs Department.”
He throughout his tenure with FSSAI has transformed the Indian landscape of Food Safety and Nutrition, illuminating its path towards a healthy nation.
His place at FSSAI is being filled by GSG Ayyangar.
