FBOs can record videos and images or live stream the premise/unit for the e- inspection process

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)  has taken a decision of pre-licensing e-inspection of high risks FBOs. This step has been taken by the FSSAI to avoid delay in the grant of licence due to the lockdown.

It is mandatory to conduct a physical inspection of the premise and units where the food is stored according to the act, especially with high risk foods like dairy products . But due to current unavoidable circumstances, e- inspection is being used as a solution to avoid all the delays in the licensing grant process

Accordingly where the licensing authority decides to have pre-licensing inspection, authorities may conduct e-inspection of the FBO’s premise or unit. They will record their observations with the help of videos or images taken by the concerned FBO. The mode of submission of the videos, images can be done with the available media with the FBO, with live streaming if possible. Upon the submission   of the satisfactory images or videos, the licensing authorities will process the application without any further delay. If the facility of downloading the images is possible, the videos and the images will be kept for future references.

These orders of e-inspection are only applicable during the lockdown period and FSSAI has ensured that they will ensure that FBOs will get the licenses without any further delay as food is an essential commodity
