Traders have been booked for conducting such instances

Food safety officials have seized 31 boxes of chocolates filled in syringes. The warehouse was located at Washermanpet and Saidapet in Chennai. The chocolates in serval shops were sold without having any FSSAI registration or licenses. Food Safety officers have picked the samples and sent them for further analysis.

Traders have been booked for conducting such instances. The labs are about to screen for the chemicals and drugs used in the chocolates. If any inconvenience is experienced, the traders will be booked for the same.

Ashwin Bhadri, CEO, Equinox Labs, said “Chocolates are the basic delights enjoyed by people. There are different types and qualities of chocolates. Even though it is made available easily and at the fingertips, a Food Business Operator (FBO) need to ensure they acquire the licenses. The chocolate qualities and the purpose for which the syringes were used are not yet clear. The use of syringes to pack the chocolates seems a bit irrelevant method.”

“Selling any product without concerning the Food Safety Officials impacts the health of the consumers as well the business. Any consumable should be approved to ensure the violation is avoided. The use of syringes seems the method used to tamper with the ingredients of the chocolate.  If any violations are analyzed after conducting the tests, the action will be implemented on the FBOs“, he added.Email header
