Sheela Krishnaswamy, a Registered Dietitian, based in Bangalore, has been elected to the national post of President, Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) for a period of four years from January 1, 2015. Sheela Krishnaswamy is the 17th president of IDA, a group of qualified dietitians and nutritionists pan India, started in 1962 working voluntarily for the betterment of the profession and the professionals. She has taken over the office from Rekha Sharma, a Delhi-based dietitian who has completed her term of office on December 31, 2014.

As an independent consultant, Sheela Krishnaswamy is working in the clinical, corporate and communication spaces.  She has completed her studies in 1983 in Mumbai, and received training in India and overseas. She has more than 30 years of professional experience spanning hospitals, clinics, private practice, entrepreneurship, corporate firms and media. As an active member of the Bangalore chapter of IDA, she served as President and Secretary of the chapter many years ago. She was elected Vice President of IDA from 2007 to 2010.

Sheela Krishnaswamy is the first IDA member to be a Director on the International Confederation of Dietetic Associations (ICDA) from 2008 to 2012. She serves as the Editor of Dietetics Around the World (Newsletter of ICDA).
