To focus on various innovative initiatives, new challenges and opportunities in the packaging sector
The Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is planning to organise a National Conference on Packaging for FMCG, Food and Pharma sector on December 8 and 9th at Park Hotel in Hyderabad.
Informing about the conference, N Nataraj, Deputy Director (DD) of Indian Institute of Packaging said that the main aim and objective of the conference is to deliberate discussion on the various innovative initiatives, new challenges and opportunities in the packaging sector concerning fast moving commercial goods (FMCG), Food and Pharmaceutical industries.
The theme of the national conference is titled “Packaging Innovation for the Future Planet—Propelling Business Growth in FMCG, Food and Pharmaceuticals’.
Adding further, the Deputy Director said that they are roping in lead speakers, researchers, industry leaders from different industry backgrounds including pharma, biotech, food, FMCG and others from across the globe to deliberate at the conference. “Lead speakers from across the globe are being invited for the conference. Already invitations have been sent to members of Asian Packaging Federation (APF) and World Packaging Organization (WPO),” informed Nataraj.
Delving more on the activities of IIP, Nataraj informed that apart from offering a two-year MS course in Packaging, the institute is also involved in conducting research projects to bring in new and innovative changes in the packaging sector that would revolutionise packaging industry dramatically in the future.
“Across India we are having 5 major IIP institutions, one each in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. IIP is soon going to begin its academic and research operations in Bangalore in the next couple of months. All these institutions are offering 2 years certification courses in MS in Packaging technology. A one and half year distance education programme in Packaging is also being offered. The IIP Chennai has recently introduced 1-year Certified Packaging Engineering course, 3 months certified training programme, which is highly in demand among the working professionals. In addition to this, IIP Hyderabad also offers one-week workshops for MSMEs”, informed Nataraj.
In addition to carrying out academic programmes and training professionals to excel in the packaging segment, the IIPs are also acting as a nodal competent authority to issue certification for Dangerous Goods Certification for those products which are being exported. “Those who want to export goods that come under the Hazardous category must take approval from IIPs as these institutions are the only UN recognised agencies authorised to give International Civil Aviation Organisation and International Maritime Dangerous Goods certification for exporting goods. In fact, IIP Hyderabad which is recognised from Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University (JNTU) Hyderabad is next only to the School of Michigan in USA,” informed the DD.
