Ravneet Singh Bittu to take charge as MoS in MoFPI

He will be 10th MoS in the MoFPI

Ravneet Singh Bittu from Ludhiana in Punjab has been named the Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) in the Modi 3.0 government on June 9.  With this, he will be the 10th MoS in the MoFPI. Earlier the post was held by Shobha Karandlaje, MP for Udupi Chikmagalur, in Karnataka. 

Born in 1975 Bittu was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019 from the Indian National Congress (INC) party in the general elections and earlier from Anandpur Sahib in 2009, but lost the election in 2024. He is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.

In January 2021, he was assaulted at the Singhu border during a Jan Sansad programme. He was appointed the party whip in Lok Sabha. In March 2021, he was briefly appointed the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha when the existing Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was busy in the 2021 West Bengal election campaigns. In 2023, he received a bomb threat via a WhatsApp call. On March 24, 2024, he joined the Bharatiya Janta Party.
