Pralhad Joshi appointed as Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution

Joshi will oversee the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)

Pralhad Joshi has been appointed Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution in Prime Minister Modi’s third term. In addition to this role, Joshi will oversee the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines in Modi 2.0 government, has been given the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution portfolio in Modi 3.0 Cabinet. He will be the 13th minister after the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution was created in 1996.

From October 8, 2020, till June 9, 2024, Piyush Goyal from BJP held the ministry as a Cabinet minister. Ram Vilas Paswan from Lok Janshakti Party held the ministry from May 26, 2014, to October 8, 2020.

Joshi a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, since 2004, representing the Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. He was also the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Karnataka (BJP) from 2014 to 2016. He served on the panel of chairpersons of Lok Sabha (2014–2018). On May 30, 2019, Joshi was sworn in as a cabinet minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term government.  He has been elected to Lok Sabha in the general elections of 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019.
