Meghalaya’s NEHU concludes training programme on food processing

The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community College for Skill Development (DDUCC), affiliated with North-Eastern Hill University, concluded the Skill Up-Gradation Training Programme on ‘Food Processing’ at the DDUCC campus in Wahiajer, Jowai from July 22 to 26.

The program offered hands-on training in preparing various food products such as chicken pickles, peanut butter chikki, ginger candy, sweet potato chips, pineapple RTS, plum jam, and plum pumpkin.

Around 100 diverse participants, including youth and mothers from the local community, attended the event to enhance their food processing skills.

The inauguration ceremony was honoured by Dr FR Sumer, Librarian, NEHU, Shillong, who emphasised the importance of skill development in food processing and its impact on the local economy.

The closing ceremony was graced by B. Rynjah, Joint Registrar of NEHU, Shillong, and Dr Phervision Nontdu, Principal of Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat. Prof. SM Sungoh, the Principal in charge of DDUCC, and Dr GR Shylla, a key resource person, were also present and contributed significantly to the success of the program.

The invited speakers highlighted the vital role of the food industry in India’s economic development and emphasised its potential to contribute to the country’s inclusive growth strategy by creating an enabling environment for investment in infrastructure, research, innovation, and technological advancements.
