Inside BENEO’s new pulse plant: pioneering sustainable protein from faba beans
The chewy texture and fruity flavours make them especially appealing to children, solving the age-old parenting struggle of administering bitter herbal supplements
Lovely Professional University’s (LPU) Dr Saurabh Singh, Professor of Ayurvedic Pharmacy, along with postgraduate researchers Kumkum Singh and Rupali, both M Pharmacy (Ayurveda) students, has developed natural, plant-based fermented probiotic gummies. These gummies are not just another supplement; they represent a fusion of tradition and innovation, created to offer a palatable, safe, and effective natural solution to digestive health, particularly for children and those seeking clean-label alternatives.
Extracts of potent medicinal herbs eg. amla and cherry were utilised in formulation which is enriched with many potent and nutritional components like Vitamin C and flavonoids.
The result is a product rich in natural antioxidants, vitamin C, iron, and lactic acid bacteria — all vital for nurturing gut flora and supporting digestive health. The chewy texture and fruity flavours make them especially appealing to children, solving the age-old parenting struggle of administering bitter herbal supplements.
Dr Singh explains that these gummies were meticulously developed through a rigorous scientific process. In-vitro testing included evaluation of total phenolic content, total flavonoid content and antioxidant potential. The research team at LPU took a holistic approach by conducting an extensive literature review and market analysis to select the most effective plant-based probiotic and herbal extracts known for their digestive and immunomodulatory benefits.
Researchers at LPU were particularly driven by the vision of positioning these gummies not just as supplements, but as functional foods with real therapeutic and preventive value.
