APEDA, in collaboration with IFOAM–Organics Asia and the Government of Meghalaya, recently organised the Northeast India Organic Week and the 4th World Organic Youth Summit with a shared commitment to strengthening the region’s organic ecosystem through partnership and collective action.

Leaders including Jennifer Chang, Executive Director, IFOAM-Organics Asia; Dr Vijay Kumar D, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya; Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA; Brendan Hoare, Adviser, IFOAM-Organics Asia; and Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, North Eastern Council, offered valuable perspectives on building resilient organic value chains and expanding global opportunities for the Northeast.

A key highlight was the Buyer–Seller Meet (BSM), featuring sectors such as Biocell and Meat, where 27 international buyers and 22 exporters came together. Participants represented five actively engaged countries Japan, New Zealand, Italy, Singapore and South Korea, reflecting growing global interest in the region’s organic strengths.

The exhibition showcased Meghalaya’s finest organic produce, including pineapples, oranges, jackfruit, premium cashews and the celebrated Lakadong turmeric, along with diverse processed products displayed by FPOs and local entrepreneurs.

Today’s collaborative interactions underscored a shared vision: empowering farmers, strengthening partnerships and positioning Northeast India as a rising global hub for sustainable and high-value organic agriculture.
