Maggi is back into Indian food market, while FSSAI goes to Supreme Court, again

After being out of market for five months, Nestle India has brought back its popular instant noodles, Maggi into shelves, while Food Safety and Standards and Authority of India (FSSAI) is back in Supreme Court to challenge the order of Bombay High court lifting the ban. FSSAI is reframing its arguments to defend its decision to ban Maggi from Indian Food Market. In the Bombay High Court verdict, which allowed Maggi to restart its operation, FSSAI was under fire for denying natural justice and the credibility of its labs was questioned. The appeal filed by FSSAI this week is opposing the same comments and wants to be clarified.

Spokeperson of Nestle said “It has been brought to our attention that the Hon’ble Supreme Court website has posted that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has filed a case against Nestlé India Ltd and Others. We have not been served a notice about this and are not yet aware of its content. However, we would like to reiterate that Nestlé India is confident of the quality and safety of MAGGI Noodles and so we will defend ourselves vigorously.”

An officer of FSSAI said “FSSAI is extremely confident about the ongoing case against Nestle India, regarding the ban of Maggi Noodles from Indian Market, which showed serious food safety violations. The Labs operating under the authority is following all the regulatory requirements of FSS Act and are efficient above all doubts. Another aim of this appeal is to defend the officials and to oppose the notion that the authority has denied natural justice.”
