Mumbai-based Cuddles Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation focused on providing nutrition intervention and support to underprivileged children fighting cancer in government and charity cancer hospitals, recently released their report titled FoodHeals™ : Exploring Nutritional Aspects of Childhood Cancer in India.
The report covers holistic developments and insights in addition to first-hand findings from FY ‘2022-’23, which help contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the current state of childhood cancer in India.
It is estimated that 76,000 children in India may develop cancer every year and prior research also shows that when nutrition is a part of multidisciplinary treatment, 7 out of 10 children in India can survive cancer.
The report has been published with valuable insights drawn from the Cuddles Foundation’s proprietary FoodHeals® App, a first-of-its-kind tech platform that automates clinical nutrition functions. The app facilitates the tracking of every individual child’s dynamic nutritional status across the treatment journey and helps create an ecosystem for medical and nutrition teams to collaborate more promptly and effectively.
All things considered, the report recommends the following key actions as a way forward for stakeholders in the industry:
- Nutrition Support by strengthening collaboration between government bodies, healthcare providers, and organisations like Cuddles Foundation, with a research-oriented execution.
- Strengthening Cancer Registries as enhanced data collection will offer a more precise understanding of the burden of childhood cancer and its geographical distribution. Heightened Awareness and early detection by launching public awareness campaigns on childhood cancer.
- Access to quality healthcare through further efforts to reduce financial barriers and enhance healthcare infrastructure in urban and rural areas.
- Research & Innovation including assessing causes, risk factors, and innovative treatment approaches, is crucial.
