2024 food trends: Swiggy’s record-breaking culinary milestones

With 215 million orders, dinner emerged as the most popular mealtime, outpacing lunch orders by 29 per cent

India’s love affair with biryani continues to flourish, with 83 million orders in 2024. That’s an incredible 158 plates every minute or 2 every second, solidifying its position as the country’s most cherished dish for the ninth consecutive year.

From biryani binges to midnight burger indulgences, 2024 was a year that united India through food. Swiggy not only satisfied cravings but also created unforgettable moments, proving once again that food is more than just a meal—it’s a memory in the making.

While chicken-based dishes ruled the charts, dosa made a significant impact with 23 million orders, emerging as the second-most popular dish. Bengaluru alone accounted for 2.5 million masala dosas, reinforcing the culinary influence of South India.

A Year of Pasta Passion: A Swiggy customer from Bengaluru went all out, spending Rs 49,900 on pasta dishes, which included 55 Alfredo servings, 40 Mac & Cheese plates, and 30 servings of Spaghetti.

Fast Food, Faster Deliveries

Bolt’s Speedy Feats: In Bikaner, a dessert enthusiast received their order of Chocochip, Strawberry, and Roasted Almond ice cream in just 3 minutes, thanks to Swiggy Bolt.

Midnight Cravings: The Chicken Burger topped late-night orders, with 84 million delivered between 12 AM and 2 AM, closely followed by Chicken Biryani. In Delhi, one user placed an unusual order for 250 Onion Pizzas in a single go!

Snack Time and Regional Delights

Chicken Roll Leads Snacks: The Chicken Roll was India’s favourite snack with 48 million orders, followed by Chicken Momos (1.63 million) and Potato Fries (1.3 million).

Regional Favorites Shine

Delhi: Chole remains a staple.

Chandigarh: Aloo Parantha took center stage.

Kolkata: Kachoris were the top pick.

Shillong: Noodles were the most loved dish of 2024.

Sweet Tooth and Delivery Heroes

Dessert Favorites: Rasmalai and Sitaphal Ice Cream were the most popular sweet treats delivered in record time.

Swiggy’s Delivery Superstars: Covering 96 billion kilometres—equivalent to travelling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari 533,000 times—Swiggy’s delivery partners were unstoppable. Mumbai’s Kapil Kumar Pandey completed 10,703 orders, while Coimbatore’s Kaleeswari M led the women’s category with 6,658 deliveries.
