“Our priority remains to strengthen product integrity by improving processes at the farm level, cold chain monitoring, and temperature-controlled logistics”

Siddharth Runwal, Founder, Provilac

In an exclusive interaction with NUFFOODS Spectrum, Siddharth Runwal, Founder of Provilac, shares the vision behind building a high-protein milk brand rooted in transparency, purity, and everyday nutrition. From addressing trust gaps in the dairy supply chain to leveraging ultra-filtration technology for naturally enhanced protein, Runwal discusses how Provilac aims to make better nutrition effortless for Indian households. He also speaks about market positioning, consumer trends, product innovation, and the company’s growth trajectory. Edited excerpts;

What was the original gap you saw in the dairy market that led you to create Provilac?

The biggest gap was trust. Milk is consumed daily by families, especially children. However, there were too many touchpoints along the supply chain, and there was a scarcity of transparency. Being part of the industry, I know firsthand how quality is compromised before it reaches the consumer. Provilac started with a simple mission to bring back purity, control, and accountability to everyday milk.

Why did you choose milk as a daily staple as the vehicle for delivering higher protein nutrition?

Milk is part of daily life in most Indian households. Rather than ask people to change habits or add supplements, we felt nutrition should be baked into what they were already consuming. Enhancing milk just felt like the most natural and inclusive way to improve everyday protein intake.

How is Provilac’s high-protein milk different from regular milk and from protein supplements in the market?

Provilac naturally increases the protein in milk through ultra filtration-adding no protein powders. It’s still real, fresh milk that is lactose-free, zero fat, low-calorie, and easily digestible. Unlike protein supplements, Provilac integrates seamlessly into everyday meals and beverages, making high-quality protein a natural part of daily nutrition rather than a separate, occasional product.

Who is the core consumer for Provilac today—fitness enthusiasts, families, or everyday health-conscious Indians?

Our core consumers are health-conscious households, families, working professionals, and seniors who consume milk daily and want better nutrition from what they already use. While fitness enthusiasts certainly benefit from the higher protein content, Provilac is not positioned as a niche fitness product. It’s designed for everyday Indians.

We’re not substituting a behavior; we’re just upgrading it. And more importantly, even those who previously avoided milk either for lactose intolerance or due to concerns about protein intake now see it as a natural way to meet their daily protein needs. When protein can be completed through real milk, without supplements, the choice becomes simple.

India faces a widespread protein deficiency. How does Provilac aim to bridge this gap through a familiar product like milk?

The challenge isn’t awareness; it’s accessibility and consistency. People already trust milk as a part of their everyday life. By naturally increasing its protein content, we make better nutrition effortless. No lifestyle changes, no dependence on supplements-just improved nutrition through something familiar.

How much protein does Provilac’s high-protein milk deliver per serving, and how does that compare with regular milk?

Normal milk has limited protein. In Provilac High-Protein Milk, we simply concentrate the milk’s own protein using ultra filtration, nothing artificial is added. So you still get fresh milk, but with almost three times more protein, less lactose, and zero fat. The taste remains the same, digestion is easy. Basically, it’s real milk just nutritionally upgraded for today’s lifestyle.

What challenges did you face in developing a high-protein milk without compromising on taste and digestibility?

Milk is a very delicate product. The biggest challenge was increasing protein without disturbing taste or digestion. Removing fat is easy, but protein sits in the middle of milk’s structure, so separating it is complex. We solved this with careful filtration, quick cooling after milking, and minimal-heat processing. This helps us keep the milk fresh and also preserve natural enzymes that help digestion.

Do you see high-protein milk replacing protein powders for certain consumers in the long run?

For regular people, yes. Families, working professionals, and even seniors don’t always want powders because of aftertaste or digestion issues. Our High-Protein Milk fits into daily life just like normal milk. Athletes may still need supplements, but our goal is to make protein part of everyday food, not something extra people have to add.

If you had to define Provilac’s value proposition in one line for a budget-conscious Indian consumer, what would it be?

Honest milk with better nutrition. delivered safely, every day.

What investments are you prioritising this year, product innovation, cold chain, or consumer awareness?

Our priority remains to strengthen product integrity by improving processes at the farm level, cold chain monitoring, and temperature-controlled logistics. Quality milk is assured by optimising the integration or interaction between production and delivery. Awareness develops organically when quality is constant.

What was the revenue in FY 2025 and what are you expecting in FY26?

We achieved revenues of about Rs 68 crores in FY25 and are projecting a strong growth trajectory of nearly 30–40 per cent in FY26, driven by sustained demand and expansion momentum.
